with criticism of president obama foreign policy but not a lot of specific alternatives. this week is vice presidential debate but next week, president obama and romney meets in face-off on long iland. romney is planning another major speech, this time on the economy. bret? >> bret: carl cameron traveling with governor romney. thank you. there is new information tonight about how bad the security conditions were in libya prior to the deadly attack on the mission. also, there are new charges that the obama administration did not answer security calls increase security for that mission. from americans on the ground in libya. james rose listen have that story tonight in just a few moments. right now, president obama is in search of consolation and cash in california. chief white house correspondent ed henry is traveling with the president. >> reporter: raising ever more campaign cash in hollywood at a concert with stars like katy perry and jon bonn jovi he poked fun at his debate debacle in denver. >> everybody here is a professional and great friends and they perform flawlessly night after n
it. so the jobs numbers probably helped slow the obama fall but now we move into another week people will be talking about biden, and then a couple of more with romney and obama. >> bill: yeah, i was surprised and impressed, i guess that obama proved -- so he didn't have a good night, we all know that, but i thought he bounced back pretty quickly the next day. he has been having a lot of fun with the big bird line. and it showed a lot of resilience, i thought, and as you point out the job numbers came on friday which gave him another little boost, cutting the impact of any romney bounce. >> yeah he has an incredible amount of fire and energy when it is his back up against the wall. >> bill: yeah. >> it's almost like he puts himself in positions like that so that he can get excited about politics again. he obviously didn't want to be on that stage, wednesday night. you could just tell he was like, god, 90 minutes. i'm just going to stand here for 90 minutes and let this guy say stuff, and then he sees that the entire nation is mocking him, and then he get
pocketbook next week than president obama can and put it in a bigger concept and elevated the race into who is the more are responsible steward of this country's finances and well being for the next generation. i thought it was a very important moment for mitt romney. >> geraldo: stand but youle join our all-star panel in a moment. first, news on fast and furious, folks. the botched atf gun running operation and news that hasn't been fully digested by the mainstream media. we know that one of the walked guns was used to kill agent brian terry but it took the spanish language news network to reveal that the walked guns were also used if you recall the horrific 2010 massacre of mexican teenagers in the border city of juarez. they broke into a birthday party and started firing and before it was over 14 innocent boys and girls dead and 12 more rounded. according to uni vision, three of the heavy weapons used in the bloody murders were linked to fast and furious. while the notorious gun walking operation played a role in that and other terrible crimes inside mexico it had nothing to do with the
's like turning now into an urban legend. by the middle of next week, people will say barack obama can't walk down the sidewalk without stumbling. i'm stunned by -- i mean, the republicans are excited, but i'm stunned by how democrats seem to keep getting more depressed every day. i've had people that have never voted republican in their life. >> right. >> saying i may have to do it this year. >> i think there's been that. there's also been a little bit of a back-and-forth about the jobs numbers that have made the republicans look desperate. but yes, overall, i think the debate had a terrible impact for the president and one that i think is surprisingly lasting. >> yeah, why is that? >> well, because a lot of people were watching and because you're wondering why things don't work in washington. and when you see two people go head to head and you see it be so starkly clear stylistically, you kind of wonder if that is brought home. >> that the president's disconnect -- >> yeah. so there's a lot of work to be done in the next debate. i mean, a lot of work. he's going to have to get his ha
your fear of the word "terrorism." obama, the white house, his whole foreign policy team, they're dealing with a completely bizarre scandal related to the attacks in benghazi, driven by the fact that they spent a week after they knew this was probably a terrorist attack insisting that it was all about an anti-muslim voe and had very little to do with terror. i'm not sure what their theory is. it's part of a broader pattern where the obama white house wants to continue george w. bush's anti-terror policies, even expand them in terms of drone strikes and so on without completely acknowledging what they're doing. but in this case, it's made them look ridiculous. it seems unnecessary. >> i've lived in the middle east and in libya. and nothing that you see is as it seems. you don't have any idea who these people r. they showed up with grenade launch easy and sophisticated weapons. but in libya today, everybody's got some. >> that's fine. you don't even have to say, this is definitely terrorism. you just don't spend a week saying, well, it's all about this video that was made in sout
in the key battleground commonwealth at vmi. romney team sensing a clear hoping here against president obama with all that has happened in the middle east over the past few weeks and months, especially in libya. nia, what do you think governor romney reveals tomorrow? does he reveal anything significant? >> well, my guess is he probably won't. we've seen mitt romney give several major foreign policy speeches, one last year down in south carolina. he gave another out in nevada. of course, he had the foreign policy trip. he's obviously trying to make headway around this libya issue, which, in fact, if you read a lot of the reports coming out about the administration's handling of this, he has a real case to press against this administration in terms of the shifting reasons that the libya thing actually happened. so i think he's really going to talk not only about american exceptionalism, but also talk about america being a leader in the world and make the case that obama has not led, not been a strong leader on iran, on the middle east, the arab spring. that's what he'll do. i think the questi
think it's going to play out. the obama team obviously knows they had a poor showing in last week's debate. so they've got to gain some traction here. booiden is a really good debate. i think you'll see ryan be mr. wonky. that's his role. a lot of numbers you'll hear from him. probably more zingers from biden. i think they have some ground to make up. >> you know, i don't think a lot of people necessarily realize how much debating joe biden has done throughout the course of his career. he's run for president six or seven times. i exaggerate for effect. chair of the foreign relations committee. here's a guy who's spent a great deal of time in public in a healthy exchange of ideas. >> that's right. that's right. i think we'll see that on display. if you look back at 2008, he was probably the best debater out of the field. i think he's going to bring those skills to bear. he had a real high-wire act last time in 2008 when he had to go against sarah palin. i think he came out of that debate looking like the statesman. i think ryan has to pass the commander in chief test. i'm not sure
presidential in that group. we'll see how he does next to president obama which i think is a little bit different. >> yeah. >> that ohio poll is interesting because the cbs one we had last week had it at ten points. now we have another one showing it at nine points. if you start to look at the map, if he doesn't take iowa, if it gets away from him, it becomes difficult to put a puzzle together to win. >> by the way, there has been this narrative that there is the grand conspiracy and that the polls are skewed. this is what walter mondale said in 1984. this is what moveon.org said in 2004, that all the polls were skewed against john kerry and moveon.org said you just wait. and now you're hearing it frantically on the other side, which ironically, again, they are putting fox news in the grand conspiracy. >> what about the conference call today that we have to plan and organize? >> exactly. my point is here we've got a couple of local polls that are showing this, and more importantly, and you guys talk to the romney people all the time. i certainly talk to them all the time. i can tell you
